Book illustrations by Ferenc Cakó

Several years ago the novel biography was a popular genre, even for smaller kids. Géza Hegedüs, a famous classicist and polymath, he saw the cultivation of young children as his heart’s desire. He wrote many books for young readers, but as an adult I still love them. Idealistic, moral, educational, but filled with emotions and love of ancient times. So I usually read his novels, although I grow up!

I bought my piece in a second hand bookshop and found a dedication on the first page. The most exciting part of this story, that the giver wrote his message in 1978, age of Socialism. And the city is Leninváros (menas City of Lenin), now called Tiszaújváros. So opening that old book was a real time-travel!

The book contains some illustrations, to develpo the sense of beauty for the young readers. The illustrator is Ferenc Cakó, famous Hungarian graphic. He was born in 1950, Budapest and still alive. Also a film director and made Hungarian animated films, designer of posters and won several pizes. Let’s see his fantastic artwork in the book ’Vergilius ifjúsága’ (about the young ages of the Roman Poet Virgil)!
