Highway to Latin

As I wrote, Latin is not the Language (here, in Hungary) you learn for usage. Surely you have some kind of target: go to medical university, become a priest, ect. But we don't use it in everyday conversations (Latin was an official langulage till 1844), so we read classical texts. So heavy ones in early ages, too. And what is Ancient culture about? Renvenge, hatred, curses, fate, passion. Nothing like nowdays. So again: totally different vocabulary.

Language teaching and the style and method of learning surely different in each countries. My experiences are from my country, Hungary. Here the teaching of Latin have traditional roots: the world changed by the teaching style stayed. It’s based on reading classic texts. So no methods like in spoken languages: introduce yourself, say hello etc. Read short extracts from original texts, proverbs or sayings. So your Latin vocabulary will be totally different from a spoken language. Why? Because of traditions? Because of Latin? I don't know it.
